MC isn't stupid or gay, he's like way more emotionally smart than any realistic 16 year old. But it's a funny manga so whateva.
Yeah she's crazy DTF but she also wants it to part of a loving, committed relationship. She's pretty clearly interested in being part of this whole arrangement and is super in love with him. While he's clearly also into her, he's not quite sure he wants to settle down at 16 with a girl he barely knows.
If he slept with her he knows she'd take it as acceptance of their marriage and commitment to be together. He is not sure he wants to take that step so he rebuffs her, because it's obvious that just a one night stand would be devastating to her which would be a super jerk move and probably turn basically his entire friend group against him.

Yeah, it already ended last two days ago and yet the scanlation team was a too slow.
They only release one chapter of this every 2 - 3 months. Most likely they will finish it next/after year.
So it's better to learn kanji, katanaka, and hiragana than wasting time on waiting for this slowpoke groups to finish it.

It would be flat-out CRAZY to let someone who intends and expects to marry you, move in to your apartment, if you don't intend to marry them. And remember, they have been living together for at least most of a year (according to holidays), and they have had several kinds of non-intercourse sex. Kaichou is *fully* committed; if he dumps her, lost virginity will be the least of her complaints.

So to everyone who's confused about why the MC is such a chicken shit (in not just this but in every ecchi or harem manga/anime), it's not supposed to be relatable to you.
A realistic and emotionally mature character wouldn't be relatable to the younger otaku target audience. The 13 year olds in japan that read this shit don't know what it's like to be sexually active, but they certainly feel sexual urges, and they can perhaps imagine being adjacent to it to some degree. The MC is simply an externalization of the demographic's sexual anxieties and naivete. Simply put, they eat this shit up because they're too young to be comfortable with sex outright, but the 'ecchi' trend toes the line in a way that's acceptable for them.
People who would want their protagonists to fuck don't actually read this shit, they read hentai or seinen works that are actually aimed at mature audiences.

I agree on most of your points if its only for the shounen rom-com harem genre. But even on SEINEN (meaning for male adults) romance mangas always have this type of crap beta MCs that has no balls. Is this implying that a 15 yr old boy has the same maturity level as a 20+ yr old guy?
Does teenage otakus in general always wants this kind of stuff in their rom-com mangas 99% of the time? I think some of them are also frustrated just as we are.

In my opinion, this is just unimaginative writing, just like any other harem romcoms it always have the same premise either shounen or seinen. No beta MC=No comedy, No harem, No ecchi. They just keep doing this stuff because its a proven formula and it sells. I find self publish web mangas more interesting nowadays.
