I wasn't expecting that curve ball from Yaichi 😂

But I can safely say my initial assumption that Vanitas could potentially be a myther scientist is solidifying! I was on the fence if he was a scientist or something else—since in the first chapter, it was mentioned that 'he didn't feel human' and I was waiting to see what he actually was. To have the whole government on your toes and being identified as an actual threat... Just how far does his influence go? Also, I did notice that in chapter 6, the woman wasn't wearing a Myther on their first encounter. But in this chapter, she's already wearing one.

For someone who seemed so sure of herself—perhaps she, too, couldn't resist the charm of tapping into her ideal self 👀 And noting that her Myther doesn't have an accessory (which from the scenes we have of the IDEVA myther distribution, their legally distributed mythers always come decorated with an accessory) I'm pretty sure it's a definitive sign that she's already one of Vanitas's pawns just like the Doctor in chapter 9 [I'm just spitfiring my thoughts because no one besides me reads Myther in my circle 😂]

REGARDLESS, I LOVE how we wrapped up with Kana and Chihiro in the previous chapters! It felt like a filler the first time, but I knew it would be too important to pass it off as such if she was given this much focus after I was re-reading the previous chapters to formulate my thoughts. And finally, it's coming to a head here with Yaichi's conversation with Kyo: The Master is waking up.

So far, we've had negative encounters with the Myther crimes (outside of our main cast) in the situations we've been presented. The ones who fully gave up their autonomy to their IFs in chapter 1, 2 and chapter 10 but we had Chihiro and Kana as the outlier. Ones who lived in perfect harmony like two peads in a pod. A master and an IF in agreement and co-habitation. It looks like Yaichi is the same way based on the latest conversation, and Kyo may be on that route to—or should I say, in a similar situation but ultimately heading into a different direction. Perhaps it's like what Baskerville said in their past comments that Kyo could become like Vani?

Honeslty, with the initial directions we're going, I've been thinking if Kyo was going to become an anti-hero with the current details we have. I can scrap that idea now, but who our antagonist actually is— is yet to be seen. But to say we have an antagonist feels like a cop out when most of our questions/conflicts feel like they're on such an existencial level that in the end: their enemies is themselves.

Regardless, I'm so excited to see how everything will turn out! It's been so long since I've been this invested in a series since slow pacing tends to be an issue with me but I'm glad Myther's story telling has so far been very intentional and kept the perfect pacing. I started reading this because of Vanitas but now I'm still staying for the plot!

Thank you so much for your hard work as usual! Looking forward to the next few chapters whenever you're planning to release them as we've fully caught up to the current releases now 🥰

WE'RE SO BACKKKKKK

the way i did not even realize it that we're already caught up to the raws, i'm SO proud of y'all the effort was worth it, it's so satisfying to be able to keep up with yatsuda's evil evil work as it releases in japan

so. yaichi. the guy i did Not talk about last time of all things. i already love him who could'a guessed

he's such the perfect character to be created as a foil to contrast to kyo, as the superior soldier and older IF created, as who kyo is going to be and eventually will be. he's a better soldier, he's more of a whole person at least seemingly, he's properly empathetic even to those who were actually fused between IF and master, he even knows what's really goes on with the prosperous nation they serve.

he's so likable in every way that it feels like he's been tailor made to be the most likable kind of guy possible like some sort of AI model made by google or amazon. that literally is what he is in-universe, but also yatsuda teki has purposefully crafted his character to be the perfect lovable pretty boy type from any given otome game. it's insanely effective, especially given the depth he's shown with right here. his relationship with kazusa is hilarious and adorable; kazusa has no clue that despite his constant mental reminders, he's already fallen into the trap of regarding yaichi as a whole person. he's way more in denial about it but he's basically reached where sataki is as well. i wonder what their relationship is, considering i doubt the government would allow fellow retainers to speak with one another - way too high a risk of unionizing. there's no way they don't get to interact in the future and it'll be so interesting to see that.

we know yaichi was created first by yuri, and that's a relationship i'm deeply curious about since yaichi tells kyo directly that yuri is manipulating him. it reminds me a lot of an older child who knows their parent the best and knows that parent's methods of abuse and manipulation best, and thus has had more time to learn and adapt under those circumstances, trying to help and protect and open the eyes of their younger sibling who is still so young as to not know their parent's sins. kyo loves yuri so much and directly hates yaichi at least a little bit out of jealousy regarding him. what does yaichi think of yuri? he called him manipulative and blamed him rightfully for what's happening with kyo. but does he hate him? it's hard to hate a parental figure after all despite anything they may do to you. that's part of the tragedy.

considering he's rank number 1 and always reliably pulls of suppression missions, much more difficult than kyo's consistent missions to kill illegal myther users, i wonder how long he's been in the game. i wouldn't have expected this much awareness be it of himself or of the systems controlling all of them. how did he keep himself even though the government definitely has been fighting tooth and nail to suppress all of their personhoods? how can he continue to do so when we know they're going to be more intense about these regulations? what has he already gone through because of all that? he didn't even have his own "onii-chan" to guide his path.

did these two's masters know one another at all? how did kano yuri know them? does yaichi know vanitas?

i think yaichi is even more doomed than kyo himself somehow. i don't think he survives for much longer. i think he succumbs to his much more limited time in exchange for being able to show kyo the way to escape this pointless cycle of violence for nothing but the government's profits. the saddest part is - i don't think all of yaichi's efforts will even amount to anything truly. i think kyo is doomed no matter what anybody does.

do you guys think yaichi and kazusa have sex

My favorite thing is when we both notice two different things because your whole thread was a pleasure to read as always!

On Yaichi, when he started calling Kyo his little brother and has been trying to convince him to call him Onii-chan, I'm actually getting Ensemble Stars vibes. He really is a lot like Mamadayo that I'm not ready for the tragedy that lies ahead of him 😔 I've seen this movie before and I don't think I'll ever be ready for whatever will happen to Yaichi. It's only been a hot minute and I already feel for him too much.

Anyway! Main reason why I'm responding to you now is because when I was starting the re-reading process, I had a few theories. But I felt like a lot of them were on unsteady footing until bits and pieces are coming together.

One of the ideas playing on my mind was Vanitas's relation to Yuri and the Myther in general. If he can surpass Yuri's limitations, if he can be cause for concern to ... whoever he is [I'm really bad with names, even with real people 🥀] then there's more to it than just him causing a ruckus and being a random crim.

If he has a grudge against Yuri and he's been specifically trying to target the infiltration at IDEVA and by extension, the goverment agency related to it... makes me kinda think! A part of me was partially banking on the thought that the Myther exists, because he had a hand in it's conceptualization but I feel like that is a bit of a stretch right now. It's probably just me making mountains of mole hills.

Though of course, I think watching it unravel and sitting on my toes to analyze things and try to grasp at straws is more satisfying than just surface reading and taking things as is haha
