Let's be honest, Japan would have already requested a nuclear strike from the USA. If that new species Tetsuo Naitoensis survived a nuclear strike just like that, you might as well give up. But maybe the author realised this and thus no nuclear strike happened. After all, it's pretty hard to believably have anyone fight against a thing unaffected by a nuke.
