Truth is, even if Mael is a douche because of his envy of Meliodas and kinda trying to impose his feelings to Elizabeth, I'm on his side fighting Gowther. Cause the reason stated in the page that's in the comments is just too much egotistical, Meliodas willingly "sided" the goddess clan, Mael didn't and would be kinda boring if at some point he 'lost' to the dark side. Of course, they are in a war and everything, but, until now, every fight had a, even slightly, moral standpoint defending the members of de Deadly Sins.

Would like to know how the author is gonna deal with that, is Mael gonna be the next 'evil boss'? Is he going to the good/neutral side after he loses, just like most of the villains in this series?
