Also there are probably a lot of local cultural things that derived from some gruesome (by today's standarts) stuff. It's just that Japan managed to preserve the form better in this particular case. Just study some kids [outdoors] games, you'll be delighted. I mean even european.

Meme culture kind of had the Ripped My Pants effect on JoJo tbh. There are some folks who have anything to do with Jojo on ignore, metaphorically speaking. That kind of stopped its popularity from spreading despite its age and presence.
