Yep, such an impractical weapon. Killing anything is difficult enough, but it is useless in tight spaces like caves, hallways, and in the middle of battlefields. At best you chock a guy out, but rope does shit to a heavy armored target. If it was like the whip in Castlevania where it was super effective against certain enemies, I could understand, but that one looks to be just rope., so in other words, it is useless. Plus are they really saying a sword blade could be grabbed by the whip and not have the whip be cut it to shreds?

dude, don't tell me that assistant or whatever is an elf and they didn't discover her already just because she was hiding her ears with her hair, that would be really stupid.

So Jeanne had to go alone with Io’s people to prove that she trusts them? Are they also trying to keep Kai’s power hidden?

Rinne and Kai has been out of the spotlight too recently, need more of them D:

This arc has been terrible so far, so many blunders from main cast.

I imagine the whip would be some kind of spiritual vine when wielded by the elves and much more practical than a whip would normally be.

Were dwarves considered Divine Barbarians? Or were they considered their own race? There's a chart in one of the way earlier chapters, but I don't remember dwarves

If you knew anything about how whips are actually constructed and how swords work, this wouldn't surprise you. Most functional whips are made of rawhide (not rope), a material that's honestly a pain in the ass to cut at the best of times (when properly treated), that is then braided to further increase its strength; the Zulu, in particular, used rawhide to make large, lightweight shields for war and they were quite effective against the weapons the Zulu expected to fight.

And as for swords, especially straight swords, it doesn't matter how sharp the edge is, if it's stationary, it's not cutting anything; a plain edge only exacerbates this. Cutting regular rope with a plain edge is pretty easy, if you have a bit of momentum behind the sword and the rope is completely stationary (see those ridiculous Cold Steel demo videos), but with the sword tangled and the holder of the "rope" struggling to keep you from moving it? Yeah, it's not cutting a damn thing.

The better question is, if she must use a flexible weapon, why a whip and not something even sturdier, like a long flail? Hell, since she's shown to be perfectly fine whipping out a dagger, why not a kusarigama that combines the two? Granted, it's a fairly uniquely Japanese weapon, but since that dagger was literally a tanto in shirasaya, I don't think that's a problem for this series.

Well, that makes more sense, but I think both of us were forgetting a key detail. They have guns. Just shoot enemy. Indiana Jones proves this to be an effective method of winning duels. At least more effective than a whip would be.

@JavelinJoe Not necessarily. For all their power against humans, bullets are incredibly tiny and against other species, their effectiveness is more diminished. Some places ban certain calibers for hunting because they're too small to be immediately effective (that is, to put down the animal in one or two rounds without it slowly dying of blood loss) and there are some animals against which you wouldn't want anything less than a .308/.45-70 or greater, because if you don't stop them with your first shot, then it doesn't matter, since they're too busy munching on your face.

And that's against things like feral hogs, bears, or tigers. Now scale the threat up to something the size of an elephant, but with the speed of the aforementioned animals, to say nothing of their thick skin, thicker bones, and dogged determination. Maybe I'm just chicken shit, but I doubt I'd feel comfortable taking them on with anything less than a .50BMG or a .950JDJ unless the rounds somehow had a micro explosive device in the tip. Problem with those calibers, however, is the rifles that fire them are heavy as fuck, not exactly fast to fire (unless the .50 in question is an M2 Browning), and typically have limited capacity (your typical Barret has about a, I wanna say, 5-7 round capacity, whereas the .950 is a specialist round with a specialist rifle that, I believe, is single shot), so not exactly good things to use against multiple targets charging at you.
