Need some new tools to help fight Private Messaging spammers:planned:

There's this guy who is basically bot generating new accounts and PM spamming users with some sort of Writing scam site. The guy has been here for weeks and essentially switched from posting comments in threads to Private messaging people, so now we can't report him for spam as easily.


Can we have some sort of new tool or function to fight this sort of Private messaging spam like putting a report Private Message as spam etc?

Agreed. As we get more popular, spamming is becoming an increasing problem.

Oh you're not the only one. I've seen this pop up a couple of times and people are always saying it's a huge problem yet not once have I been targeted.
Makes me wonder if i'm just lucky or unpopular like you said.

Is there no captcha on account creation? I don't remember...

There is a captcha but they seem to get round it somehow.

I have a few guesses.
* They're not bots and completed the captcha manually
* They paid $0.001 for a captcha solver
* They didn't need to complete the captcha because recaptcha doesn't detect bots, it detects people that don't let google track them

A simple way to combat this is to just put a few requirements to send a pm.
I.E:
Read # number of chapters
Have an account older than # of days
Have # of comments posted
Verify email again
Favorite # of chapters
Or even add a combination of these
Also don’t put the name of the account in the emails if you go the email route
