(actually just a bad joke)
Your temp agency will never send you to an isekai where your job is to be a hero and pleasure four women who are happy if you just look their way.

The "slave girl" trope isn't really improving. If the conditions are "they have to follow your commands but only if they're willing to", we already have the term "job". There's no need to call her a "slave".

@arimareiji "Job" implies you're getting paid for your efforts, though, and she isn't; therefore, she's a slave (indentured servant at best). Also, I don't remember anyone saying that she could refuse orders, just that she had rights. In more optimistic settings, slaves often have rights on who they can be sold to (such as only to a citizen rather than a foreigner), how they can be sold (such as only through a broker rather than to some rando because the owner felt like it), whether or not they can be beat and, if so, how hard they can be beaten (usually not enough to actually cause genuine harm, since it would decrease the slave's ability to work and potential resale value), and things like that.

@Vincentius on c11 p14 it stated she could refuse orders.

I suppose one difference between employment and slavery is the right to leave. You can always leave a job, though it might mean financial penalties. Slaves can't quit.

@Adama Thank you. (^_^)
(Exact wording: "if the slave refuses to follow a command, you cannot force them.")

A slightly smart-aleck observation: How many people do you know who could simply walk away from their job, even if they downright hate it and they're given a degrading order?

A bit of food for thought, from The Jungle, 1906. Unfortunately, the same things always happen when capitalism goes off the rails into oligarchy. #MeToo

Wood can't generate the temperature? I must disagree.
Damn authors... stop using trees as practice targets, use a rock or the ground, dammit.

Definitely bullshit about wood not getting hot enough, we fried things with oil heated on a wood flame while camping (with me grumbling since I learned that the pack was so damn heavy because those <beep> put 4 litres of frying oil in it among other things). Might be some kind of thing maybe like "you catch more flies with honey than vinegar" and the author thought it was true.

@theShear

Maybe hes referring to deepfrying then rather than pan frying.
...though Im not sure about the difference on an open wood fire...

Or maybe its just keeping an even and constant temperature?
Creative liberties man, they really mess with your mind.

You are correct; goes to show what my memory's worth after a couple of months. In that case, the only explanation I can come up with as to why she's a slave and not just some random girl he employed is because the "slave girl" trope is easy short-hand to show how much of a nice guy the MC is: an "oh, sure, she's a slave, but our MC is such a swell fella that he treats her far better than anyone else who's owned her before; and he's an enlightened modern man who'd free her without hesitation, but she's a demi-human in a nation of human supremacists, so she's safer as a slave" kind of thing.

I imagine in this instance, the whole "you can't force her to follow an order if she refuses even though she's a slave and that's kinda the definition" bit is probably the author's way of letting the reader know that she's "pure", because the Japanese are almost as obsessed with virginal girls as fundamental Christians (which is kinda ironic, considering the former massively prosecuted the latter to the point that, even in the modern day, only about 1% of the Japanese population identifies as Christian). Also makes it less likely for the author to get threats from the otakus self-inserting about their waifus being "used goods."

1. You can certainly deep fry with wood.
2. Even if you couldn't get it hot enough with wood, you can always make charcoal.
So yeah, I agree with everyone else, this is pretty dumb, but I don't expect accuracy from harem authors.
