@Merilirem not explained on the manga but the novel goes deeper on why there is an explanation.

The border with the demon territory and the inner continent abide by different rules. The church is technically the same but the teachings are quite different. The countries which have a border with the demon territory like the one the MC is living right now allow poligamy and there is no racial supremacy.

Countries with no borders with the demon territory advocate for monogamy and human supremacy. Also even if poligamy is possible and legal not all women are ok with it, nor all men. Its a case by case basis.

And even if 2 girls are into poligamy and both like the same guy they might not want to live together in which case the guy must choose one of the girls or effectively lose both.

@Rice There are a couple of stories where it doesn't seem to be a problem, but I think it has to do with the characters being developed well and the female characters interacting well and uniquely instead of just interacting with the male or through him

I don't know why the only thing anyone's talking about is the polygamy. It's not uncommon in their world and it's not as if it doesn't exist in ours.

There's plenty of polyamorous people, folks with open relationships, close-knit swingers, multi-marrages (even if not legally allowable). It's just not normal, so people gawk and talk and look down on folks for what makes them happy, so you almost never really see it.

@cullinaire there is. while i dont remember its name the premise is basically a guy wishes for love so something sticks him in a dating like sim where the girls compete against each other by trying to get his love. the twist is whoever loses gets locked in a never ending hell where their endlessly tortured.....after reading the synopsis i tried to yeet that manga out of existence..... it didnt work.

@cullinaire Most Shojo "harems" end up with the guys fighting. Not always to the death, but normally if there's a conflict between members it goes from harem to just love triangle with a clear winner in the end. Fuushigi Yuugi and Hana Yori Dango for example. You could include stuff like Ichigo 100%, The World God Only Knows, Ai Yori Aoshi, Nisekoi and other "fake harem" stuff where there's always a clear favorite who's going to win, but you have to suffer through hundreds of chapters of BS to get to the conclusion.
