Not really against the whole "you want revenge, I'll help you get it" bit, but honestly it's hard for me to forgive changing a character's SOP just to add a plot shift. The thug clearly said he would kill her object of affection. Dude should have died the moment he turned to run, full stop.

Have to say the author would have been better off choosing a better way to introduce the new antagonist rather then using such a hamfisted farce.
