I was honestly disgusted from MC paying their debt.
But both are too stupid, retarded and innocent to let the 2 parasites to the mafia.
Of course, MC overpaying the FUCKING MAFIA make the scene even worse.
Maybe the author wanted to make clear to them how she is under a powerful patron protection, but should only have paid the debt to clean her hands from any responsability, no more, no less.
Gave a quick check to the web novel, in there the parents were much more frontal about it, they made the daughter a co-signer for their debt, so she was forced to work or use the law to cut herself from them, MC offered her the money and she took a debt with him to repay him of the sum, 26 millions instead of 27.
I still think it was wrote badly and the parents faked her signature or used it when she was still under 18, very easy to nullify, anyway the thing was cut short.
Right after it they acted all buddy buddy and said how MC can support them all together, similar scene with the girl cutting them off from their life.
The satisfation is in the following chapter,
the two didn't learn a thing, if anything knowing their daughter have a rich sponsor made them even more brazen, they were unable to get money lent easily as before because of no one to co-sign in case anything happened, so they did it again and gone with the yakuza, believing they could just drop it on their daughter again, a year after the yakuza got them and revealed they are legally cut off, she have no responsability anymore towards her parents and there is no legal way to fix it, nor the yakuza wanted to help them, seems like dumping the debt the first time helped the legal procedure.
The 2 "parents" are both sold off to some oversea rich guy that likes to break people and doesn't care about gender, that is the end of their story, with the main duo not knowing what happened to them.
Makes me wonder the fuck did her parents did to live for 18 years of her life.
Right, I'm sure they'll fuck off now that he paid them. Criminals and scammers are known to be honorable, after all. And I'm not knowledgeable about Japan's laws, but is it really legal to just transfer your debts onto your children? Regardless, what the protagonist did was moronic, and clearly just a way for the author to prolong this farce.

While I'm not that familiar with Japan's laws, I've seen in multiple cases (fiction and reality) where the child is expected to carry the parent's burden if they disappear. Not sure if it's a law, but even if it isn't, I doubt shady organizations would care. Also, they may have even put it in their child's name (depending on age I get).
The protag wasn't moronic per se. He's just flushed with money, and just used it to take care of a minor inconvenience (to him). He publicly and definitively took care of the debt. Now when they try something again, which they will, they won't have a leg to stand on. Other than the one the MC or Karen will plant firmly in their backsides.
I know it was a thing to dump on this earlier, but I rather like this manga. It lives up to the Slow Life title so far, unlike many, many others. And without spoilers, despite the many things going on around him, it pretty much continues to do so.
I guess I'm one of a few people who didn't see anything wrong with MC handling it the way he did, and either cutting the whole underage signatory thing. It gives the parents an out, and Karen is now free without having her name attached to any shady papers that she didn't sign herself.
and the stuff from the WN about the parents can still happen the same way, because they're probably not gonna turn themselves around even without any debts anymore.
To name a few: crippling mental problems, crippling existential crises, ennui, political stupidity, general stupidity, non-general stupidity, the common cold, love, human greed, corporate greed, sectarian strife.
just pay it at exact number
don't let them even get any crumbs. that will make them need to get some debts again. but now, no miraculous money from Karen's master because she cut ties with them

She just told us about how the old phone was the only keepsake she has for her parents. She has a new phone.
I really rather dislike that he just threw money at the problem instead of asserting that Karen wasn't responsible for her parent's debts. I also really dislike that he didn't confirm anything about the payment so if they really wanted to (as they implied) they can just claim the debt still hadn't been paid as no papers were signed at the time of payment.
Nah, that was smart. He paid near quadruple the debt, humiliated the parents and if a debt collector recognises the most important person in Japan, they'll make sure to leave her alone due to sphere of influence. That and it's all on camera.
It's done. No long drawn out legal process, no quibbling or hounding, just one and done without violence.
Some of y'all people really only care about blood huh.
As far as we know the debt collectors had a legit debt. Even if it wasn't, the quickest and simplest way to make'em go away was to throw money at the problem, especially since foxface had more of a clue.
Meanwhile beating people up would lead to an arrest, questioning, public scandal, etc, and fun fact battery is still a crime even if the victim's a criminal.
???
Children don't have to assume their parents debt, as long as they're alive. And even after their death, they can simply refuse the inheritance. Plus Karen is 18 so she can sever any ties with them at any time if she wants to.
I'm not sure where that slavery trope is coming from. It's one thing for some yakuza to corner a family in their own home and kidnap people in debt but like someone said previously, they're inside a government facility right now...
