Huh, I feel like the author expects the reader to have some sort of basic Sengoku period knowledge and while I know a tad bit, I'm still quiet lost.

For those unaware, the Otomo were a clan that eventually converted to Christianity and if my memory serves right, the Otomo and Satsuma fought a fuck ton of battles against each other so to put it mildly they were rivals.

@Nou im not a historian so i may get some details wrong but ive been googling it quite a bit

the Shimazu's goal was to unify Kyushu and fought the Itou at Kizaki as part of that, the Itou lost badly and the head ran away to Ootomo, Ootomo werent really pro shimazu from the start and the shimazu were trying to unify Kyushu so they were enemies which led to the current situation of them pushing back against the Shimazu's advance, theyve been trying to get Hideyoshi to interfere but that hasnt been mentioned in the story at all since it doesnt really matter since he doesnt make a move

they fail and lost pretty much their entire army so have to sign a treaty with the shimazu but eventually do convince hideyoshi to come in who beats the shimazu and returns the ootomo's lands to them

To be fair, that history is at least somewhat more common knowledge among Japanese citizens.
Keep in mind, this manga was released primarily for Japanese audiences and not non-Japanese readers.

@comeonnow0 Oh dont get me wrong, I know that this is obviously targeted at a japanese audience (it is a manga after all) but what I meant that even with the fairly limited knowledge of the Sengoku period that I have I felt lost as the political stuff was kinda poorly explained in my opinion.

@Kredim thank you for the info :)

It's kinda funny that the Otomo are depicted as the powerful big bad here, given that historically the Shimazu was the clan that had the second-greatest influence on Japanese history and the generally acknowledged big bully of southern Japan.

I remember some of the names from playing Sengoku Rance, but I can't keep up with who is allied with who.

it would be a lot better if they had like a symbol or something to represent all the factions because I can't really remember most of them

The author probably knew his intended reading audience wasn't going to care (as/too) much about the politics of the era and chose to focus more on the violent action and the big wolf lady.
