Just on the 'tl note' at the end of the chapter;
"A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step" is a reasonably well known idiom in English. The way it's worded on that page is a little odd, but English audiences would have understood just fine.

Just to add to this, I agree that it's a well known idiom. There are also lots of variants about taking the first step in English that are even more well known and can fit the tone in different ways.
