For lols I’m gonna start adding mogu’s script comments at the start of each chapter comment thread on Mangadex. Feel free to debate his points here :x
Page 2

p(anel) 2 b(ubble) 1 - Lines like this make me want to call bullshit that much more when she loses for no actual reason

p7 b1 - I'm not sure that's the best criteria for team management...

Page 3

p1 b1 - Hifumi's already been promoted once, though

p2 b2 - Lines like this... Meanwhile the eventual winner isn't having any time given to her emotional state

Page 5

p5 b1 - Young...? One of them has a goatee!

p6 b2 - She's just copying Splatoon.

Page 6

p8 b1 This... is just gundam build fighters!

Page 7

p1 b1 - She's also totally just playing off Hajime's interests... Which seems something Yun would be much more suited to be doing than Momo...

One issue with Momo's design is that if they actually wanted to go all-in on the customization part Umiko is going to give Hajime a concussion with the forehead flick for tacking on a huge new subsystem.

The upstarts are getting a bit grating when they run their mouths at their senpai.

I'm also disappointed with Aoba's design she did exactly what she was told without soul or anything else... I guess that was the point but it feels like they made her look too bad.
Like Mogu said yeah it's a parody of Splatoon and that's fine because they can't talk about real video games they can make parodies like this ... I think.
I hope Aoba's emotional state doesn't start to fall more and more in the upcoming chapters, like probably the next one is unavoidable but I don't want an emo Aoba Arc saved by a call from Yagami for example

It's so Aoba to play safe. She underestimated the competition. I feel like she didn't consider the threat of being on par with Yagami when it came to designs. Good for Yun and Momo to be able to deliver her that threat.

On to chara designs...
Aoba: Feels straight-forward. Although the design can be easily palette-swapped to determine teams. For Ahagon, this would be a cake-walk. Another problem would be potential profit. There isn't enough space to work on microtransaction-based customizable characters. I'm leaning forward this design, because as a programmer, this should be the easiest to put in, and as a player, this one would cost me less.
Yun: I can detect the vibrancy of the characters. One issue I would be pointing out for this one is that players would initially think of different collisions for each uniquely-designed character. One best thing Yun should do is to limit her chara designs to a set of specific dimensions so that they'll feel unique at the same time plays the same (unless Hajime pulls out a "we could put that in" design idea).
Momiji: I think that this would be the most ideal for players who likes collecting and customizing their characters. Essentially, you can mix and match differently designed components to feel unique. One drawback would be what Alhazred23 said. The programming team would have an issue layering over the complex custom design system over a simple multiplayer game. I'm also beginning to think the design system would eat more work time than the actual gameplay. Oh, the optimizations.

Gah, I can relate to Aoba so much with this. XD It's happened to me a bunch of times when I zero in on what's requested of me to design, I forget to be more inventive or add flair. I don't think she was consciously playing it safe.
As for Momo's...
Unlockable...
Customizable...
*itchy hands*

If she'd just said the magic word DLC, she'd have won then and there.

So Aoba's going down the same road as Yagami. They told Yagami the same thing with her designs for PECO. Hope Aoba doesn't end up getting shipped off to France, too.

Correct me if I’m wrong but this game is supposed to be low budget, pick up and play affair. As has been mentioned a few times, adding significant customization to the game doesn’t meet those criteria.

However, adding a ton of “pop-culture” to the designs also ups the cost noticeably. If the art direction goes that way, *everything* would need to go that way. With a more simplistic design you can make do with store-bought assets and focus time and money on the game play, which is paramount in a multiplayer pick-up-and-play game.

Need some more clarity about what it is the game is intended to be. Aoba can totally do stylized craziness. I mean, that’s exactly what PECO was.

The fact that they like the design doesn't mean they'll take it 100%. They can keep the robot part and let go the customisation one. It would be a huge improvement over Aoba's design anyway,

If they want to do a multiplayer game with robots, I'd prefer a more RPG-like setting. For example, you're not constructing your robots to force them to battle other players' robots (it would be a complete ripoff...), you own a robot you created as your character and do various tweaks to it, and you need to form a party with other players to battle AI party.

Pros:
- There could actually be a catching plot. Let's say that you're an unknown hero from the streets (+Yun's idea) destined to save the Earth from evil aliens and their robots with the help of your comrades. And it will be much better than just a game with robot battles - given that the target audience are children, well, who doesn't want to be a hero?
- The gameplay could be really flexible - you could go as solo warrior, or form a party, you could play against the AI or against the players who claimed to be on the enemy's side.
- Microtransactions, of course.
- They don't need to go all-out about customization (as it would disrupt the balance), and instead force the players to master their skills, making it a real competition.
- In any setting the game doesn't need a server, it could use the host-peers scheme.
Cons:
- Done wrong, it could easily override the main concept of the "small game for middle schoolers" and made the game very costly.
- It would be VERY resource-demanding (why, hello, Ahagon... would you like to remove that AK-47 replica elsewhere?... pretty please... I certainly do not like the look in your eyes right now...) even without the graphics part.
- You'll need a long-term support for this type of game if you want people to remain being interested in it.

I'm really hoping they basically make Windjammers. Also wow some people really take this manga seriously.
