the characters development in this story is good, a lot of character development for almost everyone aside from worse kind of antagonist.

it was actually genius bit on author cause it would took a pretty while before manga reach the point where maco become best bro. unlike web novel which come out day by day. author afraid that people would hate marco gut completly if dialog stay the same(original dialog marcho seem like he lose his marble). and it would took half a year before it reach marco chad chapter. so he just ask and editor and artist to change the line a bit

but to be fair on the web novel marco. it was imply heavily that villain kind of amplify some negative emotion and that is why macro act like he was off his marble. yugo only glimpse macro personality base on how he didn't abadon his follower and they in turn didn't abandons him. and how he is so honest.

btw i really hope that villain negatively influence marco is my head canon cause marco in manga act sane so far.

I think the main villain didn't get the change to hand over "that item", since Yugo involve with Marcos first before Marcos could fallen down the toxic prideful path. The other guy straight went dark path right after getting "That item" after all.
This guy act during the train incident is perhaps due to his loss to Yugo and is in hurry to prove himself and refuse to join hand otherwise he is actually calm enough to assert any situation.
