I thought he was just so overpowered in the past, and surrounded by also overpowered people. But that line makes me thing something may have happened to weaken everyone. There is the memory of when people were as strong as he thinks they were, but no living memory for some reason. Something like that.

Well if you ask me the main failing of this series is the FL, she's a completely unworthy piece of actual trash with only boobs going for her.
At first meeting she is a failure that yells at MC for her own fantasies only to trigger some hidden "must be liked" attribute of the MC then "somehow" she ends up being HARD carried by MC.
Then she tries so hard (lol) to not accept a shit ton of money from MC after having her life saved, yes that's right, after MC goes out of his way to save her, she also takes 20% of his money because MC "insisted" on it, shameless to the extreme.
Followed by her yelling at MC for her not having her armor on, HOW is it MCs job to not only hard carry her, teach her, give her money but also make sure she's wearing her stupid armor!? And after yelling at him she also demands that he pays for her new armor, why? Because author thinks simping is cool I guess.
This is the piece of shit FL that author is forcing into the story, forcing because it's never even explained on why MC keeps babying this piece of trash after solving the "misunderstanding" of her labling him an arsehole on first meeting. He just magically "worries" about her when she just happens to be committing suicide in the forest even though she's supposedly an experianced adventurer.

Well this MC has not shown any interest in females at all this entire time.
Like many of these stories I think it's safe to chalk him up to be the mega thick headed "love is for other people because no reason, even direct love confessions can only be jokes" type that JP authors love to use.
It might also be that he had/has a lover in whatever place he was in before and therefore is just not interested in other females

Also shes not shown as any more attractive than that guild woman, I guess shes younger? But anyways no, I do not agree that it can be explained by lust as MC does not seem to have any.
The author prb believes all the readers to be braindead virgins though so if you go out of story context the excuse works.

His first reaction to her was "you are beautiful" and the mc had his tongue slip many times like when her mom told him to take care of her daugher he said "yes" which is the author shadowing future romance.

I took it as one of those stories where the MC just travels around, sometimes gets some companions but later they separate, with no actual FL for a long while.
With a hint of "MC is not looking for romance so does not even notice that every traveling companion ends up being either a girl fighting on the background to be the FL or is a team pet, and that is a non-exclusive or sometimes", this one just being the first but that will develop more as a character by the time we meet the next one.

If she is already then yeah, she is a pretty weak one.
