No? They still both have work to do regarding that quest, as well as didn't fail it. The quest was to solve it, not to subjugate it. I would argue that finding out the cause early on is just completing it early. That said, they still have a couple of nights of patrolling to do, as they need to verify that it was related to their quest, as well as verify that there is only one.
So they should report their findings to the guild, patrol a couple nights to ensure their suspicion is correct, and each day inbetween gather rumors and intel regarding whether anyone found the problem persisting.

You'd have a case if stupid people like that didn't exist IRL. Chuunis are real, and in a fantasy setting people are expected to be even stupider.

@NazrinMaus those people tend to die in goblin infested caves at a young age. People who survive to old age twice after excelling at two different skills, one of which typically in fantasy requires significant deductive reasoning, should not be this stupid.

He was a "Sage" in his past life, and retains his skills and memories. Another way to say Sage is "Wise Man".

But our protagonist isn't wise, he's a 200% idiot who's either senile or utterly incapable of recognising the world is different from what he has seen in the past. Even a beast can tell when they are in a new place and the circumstances change.

Page 11... unrelentlessly? So the opposite of relentlessly?

Also the way this witch girl is drawn on page 24 makes me think she's going to rival the guild girl when she gets a bit older. Which is good.

Thanks for the chapter.

The comments are funny. People seem to mistakenly equate "wise man" who is an embodiment of "wisdom" with a "smart man" who is "intelligent".

Wisdom results from experience, which results from living a long and eventful life. It is being able to answer a variety of topics with firsthand knowledge. It has no correlation with how attentive, intelligent, or mature a person is. A Sage is someone well studied in their path, this often results in many inadequacies in other area's and frequently a character that gets portrayed as being accomplished and knowledgeable, is also rather out of touch with the reality of things outside their expertise.

And going back to "why doesn't he act more mature, it's his third life £:"@!"... The body affects the mind and the 2 will correlate but not bind. There are children born more mature than many adults, and there are plenty of adults who never "grew up" and act like immature brats. reincarnation isn't a magic recipe to make somebody act mature just because an imaginary number called "cumulative years lived" increases. Out of 3 lives, he will have spent the same time in each just being a child, growing up and eventually maturing. Those years for someone who has already mentally matured, will not magically make them act older or more responsible. In fact, it's often a justification to embrace their inner child and live again.

@0TheWatcher0 - In the west a sage is a wise man. In Japan (or Japanese rpgs & fantasy) a sage is just someone capable of using all the magic. Has nothing to do with wisdom.

He hasn't really done anything I'd accuse him of being low intelligence for.
He's kinda "dumb" in the clumsy or awkward sort of way that just doesn't "get" normal human interactions.

You just seem frustrated because the MC isn't doing what you specifically want him to do.

Wisdom: Wisdom is the ability to use your experience and knowledge in order to make sensible decisions or judgments
Intelligent: A person or animal that is intelligent has the ability to think, understand, and learn things quickly and well.

So to sum it up, the MC is not intelligent because he has issues with his ability to think and understand things quickly (slow learning process or low deduction power), is not wise because he can not make sensible decisions based on his experiences and knowledge aquired in his current life 😁

Technically they were supposed to find out the source, not do anything about it. So they actually passed?

I'd say you're wrong on both counts. What MC lacks is common sense, which has nothing to do with either of those.

He is intelligent: he grasped the situation with the boars pretty damn quickly, and worked out a near perfect solution on the spot.
He is wise: he knows the value of low-level labour like ditch cleaning, and that taking shortcuts for a better result is fine as long as it harms no one.

So far, his only failings have been in relation to societal norms. Those are not bound to intelligence, and just passingly to wisdom. They are understood through life experience, which he has very little of in this current life. His earlier lives are no help, since the world is not the same.

MC: Does some incredible spell/etc. thing
People: *Dumbfounded faces* 😮, many questions like "what's this shit?" etc.
MC: "Eeeh, you didn't know this shit? You should know this you plebs. It's just something very unique shit I invented in my previous life" *Surprised face* 😮

Repeat that same formula throughout the manga

Can someone please explain the logic in this. The MC chose the job of ditch cleaning to experience what the great warrior Rygaard went through right? So why the F**K did he use cleaning magic to completely skip over everything Rygaard went through while cleaning the ditch.
