Up until Chapter 10 I was still a bit conflicted about the evil, but now I get it. He's nearly totally snapped and is repeating the cycles of violence perpetuated upon him. The Princess & her family willingly slaughter innocence to an unprecedented degree, and the "villains" are not actually so.
Hmm…🤔 reminds me of another series I've read. Not quite as bloody, but it has its moments. Heh.
