The reason Highserk postponed the invasion was because they had to rebuild the annexed territory that suffered from the scorched earth tactics.Pretty sure this is not how we should tell the story. It said that the Kanoa kingdom was pressuring Highserk's borders by amassing troops, making Highserk want to invade them. Then the part of the new king of Myard happened, and then Highserk invaded the ex-Kanoa lands aiming for Myard. At least that's what I'm reading. Highserk isn't entering those lands to feed the people in there. It literally said "Highserk also lacked the troops and postponed the invasion until now" in chapter 1
A lot of this was not written anywhere in the manga. It doesn't matter if the novel said it was that way or not. In the manga, none of it is cannon until it's mentionedThe reason Highserk postponed the invasion was because they had to rebuild the annexed territory that suffered from the scorched earth tactics.
The timeline goes as followed:
5 years ago, Mayard and Felius convince Canoa to attack Highserk, which they thought was weak from the constant war with the neighboring countries and the demon territory.
Highserk won the war, Mayard betrayed Canoa (Mayard was part of the Kingdom of Canoa at the time) and retreated to Felius, abandoning about half the citizens, blundering all recourses and burning down all farms and residentals.
Because of that, Highserk was not able to follow them. Mayard+Felius hoped to lure Highserk further in land, which also failed because of the support from the Canoa people.
In these 5 years, Highserk has rebuild the annexed territory (to secure supply lines), while Mayard and Felius have been constantly attacking the occupied territory hoping to reclaim parts of it.
Now after 5 years, Highserk gathered most of its troops, to finally invade Mayard and Felius to put an end to this 5 years long war.
While Highserk didn't rebuild the territory out of the kindness of their heart, they have however given the people the bare minimum of supplies to (mostly) survive. Which is a lot more than what they got from Mayard and Felius. Thats also why the abandoned Canoa troops joined the invasion, and in the end kill the Mayard King.
So chapter 4 of the manga has the people saying the King sold out their land to Ferrius and that's partly true (it keeps things simple and moves the plot along) but it's not the entire reason why his own citizens turned on him.Pretty sure this is not how we should tell the story. Second half of chapter 37 continues on from herewhat chapter on LN? i want to read man i cant wait damn
I never denied what was mentioned about the king. The ravaging of the lands is clearly mentioned in the manga, although there is nothing that implies any of it was done to harm Highserk. If anything, it's actually implied it was done to harm Ferrius instead, since that's with whom they were at war at the time. The negative emotions of the Myard people also are not something I ever put into question. You're arguing points I never touchedSo chapter 4 of the manga has the people saying the King sold out their land to Ferrius and that's partly true (it keeps things simple and moves the plot along) but it's not the entire reason why his own citizens turned on him.
In the novel it's said that the Myard King destroyed farms, crops, stores and killed his own citizens who opposed his actions when he fled. He did this knowing that Highserk would be unable to make use of the lands he had given up. Logistically, the Empire having acquired the land also acquired the people and all the problems the Myard King left behind. So instead of chasing him down they had to secure a supply route to the old capital not just for their army but for the leftover people as well. Integrating the people into the Empire is critical as they don't want rebellions (old loyalties, starvation, etc.) and they need new soldiers for their army.
You can imagine all the negative emotions the Myard people had towards their former King because of his actions. At the end of chapter 4 they were the ones who stormed his camp and ended up killing him while accusing him of his crimes.
