Something interesting I noticed, is that modern military technology has already surpassed the Japan in the story. They're still using Aircraft carriers and Jet fighters, but they're not using drones. We've seen IRL examples between Russia/Ukraine and Iran/USIsrael, where drones have outperformed older tech like Surface-to-Air missiles and manned airplanes. Drones were enough to keep the US Navy a thousand miles away from the straight of Hormuz.

Which makes me wonder- Yeah, Modern Japan could easily beat a Napoleonic army, and would beat a WWII era Japan. But they're not invincible to innovation. The author is a military geek so I half expect the Ravernal to have something drone-like. Perhaps the magical UFO equivalent. Depends on whether the intent is to glaze the Japanese Military as it is, or to show a progression of Military tech beyond.

It's still kinda funny that Japan still sends their coast guard ship for diplomatic missions and when conflict arises, people will shet bricks when they actually roll out their warships.

I have no idea when the novel has been written but I do know that updates did not happen for some time. And this drone warfare has started to take shape in this decade alone. Drones were first used in war en masse in 2023 Armenia-Azerbaijan war. By now, thanks for Ukraine and Iran conflict, they have been proven to bring even superpowers to kneels. And who knows how will war be shaped 20 years from now, let alone 100. But yeah, it's easy to surpass Japan from the story as author wrote it before these innovations.

But Japan in that story now has access to magic thanks to people living in 3rd and 2nd civilisation areas. They can make their innovations in that area instead. Something they will need when the time to face the big bad comes later on.

It's still kinda funny that Japan still sends their coast guard ship for diplomatic missions and when conflict arises, people will shet bricks when they actually roll out their warships.

Standard strategy for smart diplomacy. Send your weak parts of the armed forces so that others cannot perceive you as a threat. And those who see you as an easy pickings will soon find out their mistake.

Japan on this story transferred before 2020; suicide drones or even UAV aren't really popular as now.
Also unfortunately, this also transferred before Japan get F-35.

Mentioning Gra Valkas and nukes (or Gra Valkas having nukes in the manga version) in this stage of this arc would change the dynamics of the story...

Yeah. On novel it only gap as "Possibility" When those Guti Maun tries to invade Japan. But manga just confirm it out of nowhere. Also, Japan came with Cruise Liner with Patrol boat escort not just patrol boat on novel. Also, sadly we don't have laughing time on Eimor encounter.

The Dragonkins from Eimor quietly outclassing everyone by arriving in the most beautiful ship ever made, the Oseberg ship (820 AD). That river does not look very suited for a ship like that, but I guess they have protection magic.

It's more of being economical I think. US can't easily send their carriers without an escort and those require a lot of logistics to keep them up and running.

Thou, Japanese military doctrine is more for defense so they have no reason to swing around their warships and threaten other countries with it.

this story is written before drone warfare become popular.

also,
the author confirmed Japan will win against the the Ravernal empire easily, zero casualties. so expect the Ravernal empire will just underestimate Japan, and makes some arrogant speech. then Japan unleashes their glorious nippon steel folded 10000000 times (and the repurposed Gra Valkas ship into the railgun Yamato). the Ravernal make goofy faces and yell "sonna bakana" as they got blown up.

True, for our world at least. This manga does not take place in our world.

People there do not know Japan's history, technological levels or true potential it can unleash.

So this kind of diplomacy is actually smart, since Japanese do not know much about the world as well it helps to be secretive like that.

I'm pretty sure they are still on a defensive stance after their fight with Parpaldia and with the sounds of things, they have a mutual defense treaty with Mu so they don't want to kick the hornets nest on their own.

Sure that they do have placed restrictions on technology exchange with other nations and put a lid on their advanced stuff but I don't think they are shy to show strength but more like they are still setting up their information network so they can't really risk showing their hand now.

Eh, drones are just cheaper low yield smart weapons. And their novelty means countermeasures haven't caught up yet.

Wide area hifreq microwave emitters are probably going to be main defense with laser based PDS. Or a 40mm auto cannon with HE-VT.

And with how Russia is grinding through Konstantinivka and the decapitation strike on Iran, I'd hardly think either Russia or US has been brought down to their knees.

Is she Sanae Takaichi? :meguupog: and I'm curious, will the next arc end up using nuclear weapons as the final move to destroy the kingdom?

Really?

Russia has been bleeding soldiers without any notable gains, they cannot even protect their capital anymore. Crimea has fuel shortages and not even the refineries deep inside Siberia are safe anymore. They could not even hold Victory Day parade without Ukraine's approval.

And US is even worse currently, signing such embarrassing capitulation with Iran after that failed war that saw their allies abandoning them and their millitary assets either dealing no significant damage to the Iran and even getting bombed themselves. With Iran not only coming out victorious and richer (due to 300 billion $ aid and ability to ask for payment to get trough the straight) but also with even stronger regime than before (which was one of the US objectives in the war).

And these are two "superpowers" against countries that are much smaller, poorer and overall weaker when compared to these two giants. The only advantage they have left are nukes and both did not shown any intention to using them, thus they are also useless.

Beating Parpaldia made Japan look too militaristic and expansionist, so they needed a foil, a post-WW2 Japanese Empire expie.

Also, I think it sort of makes sense from a stance of focusing on information warfare against near-peer other nations who are smart.

Essentially, people smart enough to see the sophistication of a Coast Guard cutter (the steel alloy construction, propellor and diesel turbine propulsion, the obvious active radar, and the industrial and technological capacity needed to build and support all of this) and rightly be wary, are the real threat, and you want to keep your military secrets away from them.
Anyone dumb enough to judge national power by the size of the ship, whether it be common citizen or national official, is not worth the time or effort to consider.

The people in the latter category are likely to be pre-Dreadnaught technology at best, and can be easily overwhelmed by Japan’s advanced military technology, like Parpaldia and pretty much most other nations.
People in the former category, though, are the ones who can properly appreciate industrial capacity and scientific applications to warfare, and are the ones to most likely react not with obvious scorn or belittlement at the small ship, but wariness. And thereby betray just how dangerous of a threat they could become.

Sure, the author will say that the Coast Guard ship was sent because “Japan is not a militaristic nation” and “they don’t want to bring the military to a civilian summit”, but the effect is that of Japan getting to see who looks at their example of technological prowess and responds with arrogance, showing that they can be steamrolled just like Parpaldia, and who is a near-peer threat that actually knows what they’re doing (Annonrial Empire and certain high members of the Mirishial Empire).

Sadly, very few are knowledgeable about it will see what's on that coast guard ship.

That dude who was managing the port only pointed out the guns he can see. It's still more of a technology level which is why he didn't think of anything else that can be fitted on that coast guard ship.

That's why I mentioned that only certain members of the highest levels of the Mirishial Empire are actually taking note of what's actually on display.
Basically, from the position of Japan's information warfare and their overall strategy, if you can't tell that there's active radar pinging everything you've brought, then you're not a threat worth worrying about.

Hence why it’s only a small minority of the upper echelons of the Mirishial government (who know about advanced things like phased array radar fire control systems and datalinked CIWS turrets from the Pal Chimera, and can recognize them in someone else ) who are going “look at how close they are to Ravernal capabilities” and doing an impression of Q to say “if the Emperor’s told you once, they’ve told you a thousand times: DON’T! PROVOKE! THE JAPANESE!”.
