Alright, I don't think I get what happened here.

Why did the son turn into a beko?
Because his mom was one. These creatures are going backwards through time (like warhammer Hrud), fleeing the "Heavenly Sage" Great One that the grandfather knows as a "guardian deity", and that Great One can hunt them because it can travel through time. The grandfather's family was cursed, and they'll always have to deal with the creatures. The Grandfather tried to avoid it, but the curse hit his wife causing her to birth a creature (the mom), which in turn birthed the grandson. The Heavenly Sage Great One hunted the mom through time, and then hunted the grandson. That's why the grandson saw his own head in the shed - he would eventually realize what he was, become a creature, and get hunted by the Heavenly Sage.

The creatures are going backwards, because time to them is a circle, but their weakness is that a circle is still two-dimensional. To a four-dimensional Great One, that can go forward and backwards in time, there is no escape.

He always was one and the Sage who eats Bekos found him so he tried to escape in the past through a cow's womb but since the sage also ate whoever heard his kind's prophecies, people thought his kind cursed people with their prophecies and thus started to cut off their heads before they could speak so he got his head cut off by his own ancestor

Seemingly the mom escaped for longer because she escaped through a woman's womb with a cow's head instead of a cow's womb with a woman's head.

Apparently getting their heads cut off like that is preferable to getting eaten by the sage.

Time is a circle. The Heavenly Child, it is something that 'eats' Kudan. But to know of the Kudan is to know that it is inevitably fleeting by nature. The cyclical nature of it, perhaps there's just one or a dozen Kudan - Endlessly hunted down and 'eaten' by the Heavenly Child. It is also a 'deity' of sorts - Like the bug-deity from the previous volumes. When something is bereft of proper worship, when something lost becomes more than it is, it transforms. This seems to be a theme in the manga.

If people can transform, flesh-rending and bone-grinding, then so can deities and creatures of the like. Perhaps, perhaps that's the point of Nikubami Honegishimi. An act, a rite to transform something..

Confusing chapter, but I think they actually did successfully escape backwards in time. The grandfather says that a long time ago, the kudan used to be born, then die, with no mention of the Heavenly-Child Old-Sage appearing to eat it. Furthermore, in that period, nobody died after hearing the kudan's prophecy, either; whereas Haruhiko's mother implies that people only died after hearing the kudan's prophecy because the HCOS was killing them for consequently carrying the kudan's "scent".

This is more of a stretch, but I also think that when she says that the HCOS's kind is starving, she doesn't just mean it's ravenous. It relies on prophecy in order to hunt its prey, and after a certain point Haruhiko's family started immediately killing what they deemed as beko before they could speak. It might literally be starving. I'm also not sure the HCOS was able to hunt Haruhiko here, as it seems like he went to the past through the family cow's womb, and got beheaded by one of his ancestors immediately after being reborn, hence the intro of the previous chapter where somebody in his family' ritual getup is putting his head in the shed.

More than anything I just want to see what the extra notes for this creature will say– I'm not even sure whether the creature they'll focus on here is the HCOS or the kudan. Maybe even the ushi-onna since that's actually a modern yokai distinct from the kudan, albeit inspired by it.

Yeah I also think that was the intention here. BBC aka Big Beko Consumer failed to kill Haruhiko and he escaped to the past, and that is how his head got in the shed all those years ago. In other words, since time goes in reverse for the Beko, does it imply that the Kudan was actually a less monstrous evolution of the Beko who over time became less alien and dangerous as they simply die on their own after 3 days, so the BBC eventually stops chasing them?
