What happened to being inconspicious? The sword belonged to the last boss of a ridiculous dungeon and he just hands off the sword for appraisal. He should have at least been present for the process and silenced the appraiser afterwards (at least through intimidation. Honestly, he would have totally deserved getting the sword stolen for such carelessness.
