It's not just fiction either. Growing up, my father would reaffirm his love to my mother regularly, so page 8* is basically just flashbacks to my childhood, for better or worse.

I think the author wants to imply she was a difficult person to deal with, and the mc at least admired her straightforwardness and assertiveness. I just wish it was more explicitly stated, I think the author doesnt want the characters to have flaws.
