Feel that this manga adaptation is over-rated.
Should've just read the novel, now I'm spoiled on the plot of the original novel with this subpar adaptation. This was simply a drawing of events. But the connections between the main character and the side characters weren't able to be brought through (or at the least, I was unable to feel).
If there was one emotion it evoked for me, it was the utter disgust of the main character.

i read at a different site. but my thoughts is his downward spiral is insufferable especially near the end but when i think about it, its so hard to blame his thoughtlessness for a lacking a loving family and support system. most of his connections seem to be superficial from a lot of internal noise (acting, clowning, unable to open up or seek support due to his own self loathing and guilt oriented mindset) its just a whole mess and not a lot of character development which is probably the point of the manga. but its so painful to read, there's no redemption in the end, its a bad ending after all.

mc was so fragile, in the surface when he was doing his manga well and having a happy life with his wife, he still carried all the guilt and baggage that spoils everything once he throws it up. with him coming from an extremely cynical perspective about society, its hard to blame him losing it after seeing his wife get r*ped by someone seemingly trustworthy and harmless. his friend also with underlying schnaudenfraud that doesnt get resolved or cleared out, man completely lost his hope for humanity.
to top it all off, he found comfort from a suspicious person and gave him drugs, being a person who was an alcoholic along at a fragile state, his mind was ultimately at its weakest and did not understand any consequence of it, he became too desperate and clung to the euphoric feeling of the speed he'd be injecting himself.

this manga is the very definition of a downward spiral in steroids. with a short moment of redemption but would naturally fall back into the place of the downward spiral as mc's roots are bound for failure and ruin

i feel so sorry for his wife, it really was set on stone when she lost her innocence and trusting nature. she was the sun of his life now tainted and forever ruined by these people.
