interesting how the comment with instructions for how the block the ad, and my comment that quoted those instructions, have both been removed. Very nice. Well done, mangadex staff. Doing a great job of beating the sketchy allegations. Hope that opera affiliate program really comes through for you.

Tested multiple browsers and both platforms. The ad always loads first before any other content by quite a wide measure with mobile being up to several seconds, are you F kidding me?
Tristan9 will continue bleeding Mangadex to fund HIS COMPANY NAMICOMI THAT HE IS CHIEF INFORMATION OFFICER OF ACCORDING TO FINANCIAL FILINGS.

filter: mangadex.org##[href^="htt ps:// www. run opera gx . com/96DB54B/KR8KMFX/"] <-TEST//IMPORTANT: Remove spaces before using. If blank the advert address was removed again.
frame filter from mobile Brave (may not be concise enough): mangadex.org##.flex.flex-col.items-center.justify-center.rounded.bg-accent.h-32.p-4.text-sm.sm\:text-base.break-words

  • 15+ comments have been removed by the forum janitors. This comment is no longer last on the page.
  • Brave and uBlock now autoblock the Opera ad

I know absolutely nothing about manual adblock filters, but when I blocked the banner and it appeared again on the next page-load, I manually changed the filter from
mangadex.org/promo/operagx/xl3%20opera%20en%201.png$image
where that 201 changes between ads, to
mangadex.org/promo/$image
and that seems to have worked.

just get Ublock and learn to use it
mangadex.org/promo*

there, this will block all. And I will prolly get smacked by the mods for this.

This is honestly disgraceful. Nobody in their right mind could call this "non-intrusive". It's so obnoxious that it actively impairs the use of the site. It's right there in the middle of the series page, taking up so much space that on a standard 1080p monitor you can't even see any chapters without scrolling down.

I blocked the direct address of the ad and that worked but apparently posting the link gets it removed.
Thankfully I'm not seeing any others yet but tomorrow is a new day with new horrors waiting.
EDIT: fixing with filter evasion for fun and profit

I know how to use it (and thanks for the rule). But it's not like it's that intuitive for non-techies to figure out the filters.
Right click the object to block, select "Block element...", select "Preview", click down the list starting from the top until too much disappears, then click one back up so it blocks the maximum level of what you want blocked.

Easy peasy lemon squeezy.

I hope they manage to go mainstream.
If they do so, it will singlehandedly change the industry (outside of Japan) from shitty mobile apps and coins bullshit to a one-subscription unlock-all webapp. Emphasis on no coins bullshitery.

Creators are going to make less than they do now if they go subscription if you think about it Coins at least give some level of correlation to costs that each series gets. What's the subscription equivalent? Views? What is some subscriptions reads more series than others? Or one subscription reads only 1 series then unsubscribes at the end of the month? Think they're gonna give majority of that to that one creator?

Subs are good for fans, bad for creators
Coins are "bad" for fans, better than subs for creators

I doubt that a subscription like Spotify will catch on for manga:
1. The companies saw that Spotify is bad for their music counterparts.
2. They make shittons of money with the coins.

My problem with apps like tappytoon is, that they're bad, very bad UX.

It seems like everything, that is not a payment button, has less polish :pacman:

Wait, really?! What was the rule/reason quoted when they did that, because afaik md-forums has no rule against neither practicing safe sex websurfing (block ads), nor against helping others do so?

Either way, seems extremely draconian/sus if they not only did so, but actually did so without using their usual system of leaving the comment in-place, but edited by the mod to only say the reason for the removal.

(and to be clear, I am not asking if it is true you had such a comment, I saw both of them before, myself. The "really?" was more about signifying an outburst of surprise)
Oh, that one seemed to be just to put it in line with what official publishers use. I wouldn't call that sus
I probably wouldn't call it sus either, but it is absolutely not in line with official publishers afaik? Isn't "mature" usually just a tag used for what md currently calls "erotica" (stories to keep one hand busy), while on the contrary md's "pornographic" tag is used for actual porn (aka hentai, often - but not limited to - of the doujin kind)?
There is a rather large difference in the 2 kinds, even if their purpose is the same (effectively sums up to being about the magnitude of the story:'Plot'-ratio, etc).
(While "ecchi"/"suggestive" is used for anything containing nudity or pantyshots etc)

no reason was given. no notification either. I just came back to the thread to see how the conversation was going and noticed that my comment and the one I quoted were gone. People have given pretty much the same advice since and haven't had their comments removed so perhaps someone was just being a little overzealous earlier and cooler heads are prevailing now. Or whoever was deleting the comments went to sleep. Who knows? I'm expecting about as much insight on that decision as I am on their advertising choices or finances.
