They've certainly come a long way 🥰 And Chuuta summed it very well, Toraji taking a proactive role about defining his role in the Cheda-ya himself is a great sign that he's finally able to imagine a future there and is planning to stay and work for it.

Now if we could all just pretend we didn't see the "reprieve before the hard end of the year" opening and "sad poem" closing bits... 🤭

I'm choosing to interpret the first one as just the usual hardships of winter with the cold weather and whatever end of year businesses Japanese people had at the time period. As for the second... I suddenly can't read subtext lol
