given how clueless Iori is, when did she deposit money on the suika? And not know how to use it?

or is the suika like a credit card and she is in debt without knowing how to pay now?
The lady from last chapter probably helped her with adding money at first, maybe with cash? She used it to pay the train fares, after all. But if Iori used her own cash then in theory she should know how much was left on the card, though it would be understandable if she just didn't take notice of how much the trains cost.

I looked it up since I was bored. The last chapter shows her putting in 2000 yen when she makes the card and shows a balance of 2000 yen when she scans it the first time (she's boarding the train here and will only pay when she gets off). Apparently her train fare should only be like 200 yen, leaving her with 1800 which is enough to pay at the store.

Minor incorrect detail is that a Suica card does cost 2000 but you only have 1500 to use because of the 500 yen deposit, which would leave her unable to pay at the store, but not a big deal really.

I really hate stuff that wallows in despair or gets too cringe... this series does neither, even with the subject matter! I think it's mostly that there are no Bad People yet and everyone treats her like a lost puppy once they figure it out. It really rides that line between oh nooooo and but there's hope! Thanks for doing it!

Hope these clerks become recurring characters, they crack me up.
It's the famimart closest to her apartment, so since she didn't seem too traumatized in the end (delicious famichiki!) she'll be going back. Hopefully we see it.

I now want a story where a clerk just analyzes and helps his customers by analyzing what they buy while a cheeky gal makes fun of him

Not shown but couldn't she only have used the Suica to pay the difference between what she owed and the 1500 paper yen she had? Or bought the rest of the stuff first with the cash and then seperately bought just the chicken with the Suica?

You absolutely can split payments at conbini. Suica plus cash is quite common. But I guess the author didn't want to get too deep into that and FMC certainly would never have known. But the employees probably would have mentioned it if it were necessary.
