Is anyone bothered by the fact that author doesn't know what a "prodigy" means? You don't give someone the title of prodigy in your story then portray them as useless while still trying to maintain that title. That's like shooting yourself in the foot twice on the same foot.

Prodigy doesn't mean omnipotent guys. She's probably a prodigy in whatever she studies at the capital but not at adventuring.

He background as a prodigy in science turned into a liability when heading into the wilds. Everything had come easy to her so far so why wouldn't a little walk to gather a plant?

Yea but the title nets you silver rank, rentt was bronze and was considered extremely weak in combat. I stand behind my reasoning.

@relic626 she got the title from academic pathway... because her scholar title (great professor) is equal to silver rank of adventurer guild.

On the other hand, Rentt got his through field explorations/quests. So she is book-smart but Rentt is street-smart.

Also she is not weak, she is strong, physically and magically. However, it was also her first time ever in her life to set her feet in battlefield. It was her who defeat the goblin, not Rentt.
So she has full arsenal but lacks the experience, even a prodigy needs to start from somewhere before he/she becomes a master of that subject.

It's really not that hard to understand, she's a prodigy in magic and academic pursuits, the guild rules say that a professor is afforded a Silver Rank, so she thought that meant that as a Professor she is equivalent to a Silver Rank Adventurer, and an adult. She got a rude awakening when her magic and studying didn't translate to hiking (or combat) experience, and she was burning through her magic and stamina by using magic reinforcement in the woods, that's without mentioning how she almost got killed by low leveled monsters, because op magic doesn't help if you freeze up instead of casting.
