If you think about it the hero is a fucked up bastard, he gave his sword sentience and immortality just to leave her in a cave for 500 years and by the looks of it made her wholly dependant on him, unless that was just Stockholm syndrome from being stuck in the same spot unmoving for 500 years waiting specifically for the hero to save her.
