Hibiki is interesting. Children who move from place to place a lot, on top of growing up lonelier due to quite literally being taken away from their friends, also don't develop a sense of belonging compared to kids who grow up in one place, and end up with peculiar personalities that make them seem oddly open about things. Rare to see a character whose childhood friend bonds are introspective and have weight in their personality instead of just being the usual throwaway plot device.

This is exactly it. I would add that it has only been clear to the reader that she doesn‘t ”love~“ him the way he does her. He didn‘t really know until realizing last chapter- I just wish this chapter was a continuation of him coming to terms with not being her true number 1/priority, which she is to him. Which is more than okay and healthy, too and something that often happens in relationships. Kasane to Subaru just had the exact same arc TLd.
But then again, they are teens sooo whatever
