The whole perfect memory thing being bad for swordsmanship is BS, but I imagine he's actually a good swordsman but he doesn't compare to the rest of his family due to their talents making the difference where effort simply is not enough. So far we have a clunky story, but it has enough personality that I think I'll keep reading this as chapters come out.

Not only that but he can remember his enemies attack patterns and even copy their sword style while fighting them...legit all he has to do is train..and if he can learn magic just cause he remembers it..why can't he learn special sword skill by doing the same thing.

I think the obvious answer to what everyone keeps asking is that MC could absolutely be a good swordsman. He just can't impress people who don't value HIS style of swordsmanship, which would likely lean toward a more delicate/precise style rather than raw strength. In a way, it's like all those other stories where a magic family only loves their fire mages and hates the talented wind mage despite being an absolute prodigy.

Beyond bashing the 'muscles!' mindset, it also seems to be taking a swing at the 'might is right' mindset as a whole, including from the mages.

Edit: I think it's also pretty clear we're going to see SOME of the 'magic? swords? why not BOTH!' tropes. "we never thought about combining the two to train a magic swordsman!"

I think the folks bashing this gave up too soon. Im actually quite enjoying the feel of the prejudice between the magicians and swordsmen and Durandal's positive outlook in the face of that. It's nothing fancy, but the fun character designs and flashy art for all the magic (even if it's a bit nonsensical) is entertaining. Easy 7/10 so far for me, maybe an 8 with further developments. I'm also digging Ice Cream and her stupid name lol.

I'm enjoying this story quite nicely. I know the character names are cringe as all else, but then... we do THAT all of the time. It's easier having an overcomplicated name that does NOT translate well. Lady Dondurma's name is constantly being changed to Dondurama and back again.

The MC, Durandal(named after the infamous sword Durandal), was raised by meatheaded swordsmen, who abused him, put him down, and the magicians do likewise, so it's understandable that the MC doesn't KNOW any ACTUAL swordsmanship, when his family just LITERALLY CHOPS through rocks, stone, trees, and even leaves behind massive shockwaves that put Dragonball Z scenes to shame. To be fair, they probably DON'T have an ACTUAL sword style... rather "BASH BASH BASH SLASH SLASH SLASH WAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA"...
Majority of the characters are easily acceptable as-is, and feel real. We got the Ice (Cream)Princess and her step-mother who raised her, trying to make her strong through diligence and trying to make her stronger. And then everybody else has been up in arms between "Who is stronger, Magicians or Swordsmen" and nobody is right. This follows the stigmas of racism, and is acting like Blazing Saddles as they slowly overcome the difference of Swordsmen and Magicians thanks to Durandal's optimism and persistence. They literally have a two-system school, Moon and Sun, which you might as well say "Black and White".

Some of ya'll come in here not thinking of some of the underlying story, because it's deeper once you actually go all-in and think about it. It'll be nice to see how this goes, and see what becomes of people as time goes on.
And no. I did NOT give it a 10/10, because there are some errors here and there, but the hilarity of things keeps everything entertaining, and watching how Durandal grows, and how people around him are slowly changing.

I think this is underrated (I give it a 7 after reading it all), but it ended at chapter 35 so it didn't seem to find an audience in Japan, either. I found this an enjoyable read, but it has pacing issues and I think the ending suffered because of the quick axe.

Don't waste your time with this as it only gets worse with every chapter to the point where everything is done as a "LOL SO RANDUMB" bit much in the flavour of family guy, along with the same tired tropes for these sorts albeit done in a even worse way somehow.

They even threw in a robot doll maid thing which competes with the sister and the ice bitch on who can be the most garbage character out of the three.

On the topic of the ice bitch, even the mother has a ice cream cone slapped onto the top of her head as a sort of gag.

The art somehow manages to accomplish something I thought to be impossible at around chapter 16 and 17 by becoming even more dogshit.

At the end of chapter three they then add in some throw-away bit wherein the MC's primordial magic somehow being branded as "the most evil magic".
