You know, I kind of wonder exactly how many times this whole "walking in on a girl changing" scenario actually happens at Japanese high schools. (Ignoring the rom-com reactions.) Like, obviously it's basically never, right? But just how never are we talking about? Once per school per year? Every two years? Less than that? More than that?

Surely it's not literally never, because characters changing in their classroom shows up enough in these things even without these sorts of lucky pervert scenes that I feel like it's got to have at least some basis in reality. And if people really do change in their classrooms, then I feel like someone's gotta forget / not realize when they're doing so while they forgot to lock the door at least once, right?

But there's just so many hoops you have to jump through that I feel like the stars basically have to align for something like this to happen. In which case I kind of wonder why it's so over-represented in manga like this, you know?

Its (was?) very common for students to use classrooms for changing, so she wouldn't have thought much about it. That would be where her bag/cubby would be.

This is much more common in lower grades (i.e. not highschool), and in schools that used to be single sex and are now coed.

They aren't 'in the game' anymore but I had friend who did JET and said in the older/rural schools its more common as it saves time vs herding everyone to the locker rooms - provided those exist. Sometimes the rural/older schools don't have locker rooms, or it might be a single-sex school and only have one so they have to coordinate. Its also more common for elementary/middle school, highschool they'll usually have them use the locker rooms for PE but again that's provided they exist.
