I feel bad for childhood friend here, but Nishino wins on all fronts at the moment

Isn’t that basically quintessential quintuplets?
Never read that one, i'm not a big fan of harem stories, but this one should've been just a couple getting together but the author decided to insert this childhood friend character that is here just to suffer.

On the one hand, respect for following through on the plans he already had, holy shit that was rough though.

Some people do just be contrarians huh. The characters or the story itself doesnt matter, they just be wanting main girls to lose for the sake of being different. Lame.

I mean, she's there to represent his past. There's actual meaning to her introduction and inclusion, because it's what frames the ML and his progression as a character through the course of the narrative.

I get that the "losing heroine" trope is a well-established one in romance manga, but there is merit to engaging with each interation and instance on its own merit within a given series, and not let preconceived notions or biases color or limit your analysis and interpretation of what the character represents to the story they're in.

Tsuzuri is prepared and accommodating of his germaphobia, while Nishino brought him out of that comfort zone/helps overcome it. someones gonna get their heart broken and i already know which one :angery:
This is pretty much my exact take from this chapter. Both girls came into his life and gave him what he needed at the time, but what's important is if Tzururi is able to adapt to the changes he's gone through in high school.

Not really, the one who won was the one who got the least development and focus out of the 5 of them (imo at least, it's also been years since i read it so i only remember my impressions on it).

Take for example Soredemo Ayumu, Rin got a lot more focus and pretty much stole the thing with her charm and forwardness, she should've won but still lose. It's not the same situation "OP" is complaining about even if that's not necessarily the situation rn.
Just once i want to see the childhood friend that seems like is 100% losing, win in a romcom. But i'm sure it's not happening on this manga.
