Emus won a war against the australian army. Eagles, raptors and owls are killing machines. Crows hold grudges for decades if you harm them and will hunt you. Anyone who says birds are weak don't know how terrifying they can be.

Generic plot devices aside, my ADHD-ass brain never remembers to charge my phone. I end up needing to wait like 10 minutes before I go outside the house to do stuff because my phone is dead. I imagine mangaka is a profession that attracts a lot of ADHD-ers, so the phone at 2% charge is probably one of the more realistic manga tropes, at least compared something like getting sick after the clouds piss on you.

The timing of the battery dying was tropey, but the plot device itself fits this space cadet exactly. Because Tsumiki would forget to charge her phone, wouldn't she?
