I know it was a long long time ago, but in early chapters we had a lot of stuff about how Yutaka had some issues with his childhood friend (Atsuto) and people at his middle school. Go back and look at chap 15!

I remember him I just didn't think of him since the sister brought up the childhood friend thing when the conversation was revolving around him and a girl going out shopping together so I just assumed she meant a female childhood friend but Atsuo makes sense too.

Isn't she's just talking about his childhood friend he fell off with? You know, the one who already appeared before.
Seeing how fast he left when she started talking about it, and since it's still a sore point for him, I think that checks out.

I think it would be weird for the author to pull of a mysterious female childhood friend/new love interest out of nowhere at this point of the story.

Also very minor TL note, which you'll see in a lot of other manga. Page 17, it's actually considered rude to just open tear your gifts open like a wild animal. You're supposed to wait till you get home and then very politely open and admire it. Which is pretty silly, so most of the time you just say 'Can I open this now?' and the other person says 'Sure.' But you're still supposed to treat the wrapping with utmost respect, don't tear it off (with fingers or teeth).
