The ride was fun, the landing a bit disappointing, but good read overal.

Same, I somewhat enjoyed the final boss fight, but the introduction of the kid was really random, the ending left me with some kind of feeling, but not a possivite one

I read it as "the story ended in chapter 40" (or 42, but somewhere around there) and the rest was just epilogue, that way I got a pretty long and nice ending.
