Maybe Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Steve Blass should've eaten some garlic like this. Maybe it would've cured his case of the yips that caused him to retire.

Anyway, that wraps up Volume 13 (Getting through the whale arc was one of the hardest things I've ever had to do). See you all for the start of Volume 14 in a couple of days!

Eating raw garlic to cure your stomachache from eating raw garlic…

Yeah, seems like the dude believed that he needed to eat more raw garlic to acclimate his stomach, only, it doesn't work that way...

I mean, I know this comic was drawn almost 40 years ago, but did professional baseball teams in Japan not have nutritionists and the like? You'd think they'd give the guy a diet to follow if he was having gut issues.

They didn't. Teams only started regulating player diets in the 90s and even then, it's the basic no smoking, no alcohol, no chocolate. Nutrition was taken more seriously only in the 21st century when those teams started winning.

I see. I know in the MLB, they were kind of loose with that as well (I’m old enough to remember Pittsburgh Pirates Manager Jim Leyland smoking cigarettes in the dugout), but I know they had medical staff and you’d think a player suffering long term stomach issues would’ve been seen by a doctor provided they didn’t think he just had the yips.

I can't take garlic taste in soups. It's too strong for me. I'm kind of ok with it if it's mixed in with other flavourings as marinade or in garlic bread, though.
