Also the dialogue this chapter makes me think of a story I heard of someone who picked up a lot of japanese from a certain Gundam character, who had to fight to not sound like that....

I suppose the modern equivalent would be someone learning most of their Japanese from anime and manga dattebayo.
This chap reminds me of some "weird speech pattern" Moment
I've saw vid about how plenty of foreigners with Japanese wife ended up sounding like a gay man because they learned Japanese from their wife, thus imitating their feminine speech pattern
There's also that Chinese guy who became an "internet sensation" A while back because he passed Japanese language test (at N3 iirc) from years of watching JAV, I wonder what he sounds like to the native Japanese speaker..
