I appreciate the judges' consideration in not putting one wedding over the other. But I also think they're cowards for it. So here's my verdict.
I think the Ultimate Wedding Ceremony was the better one here. The Supreme Wedding Ceremony was really poetic, but it doesn't involve the guests as much as the Ultimate. It feels more like the bride and groom showing off their upbringing, didn't matter to who. Yamaoka was right to focus on the ceremony part of the wedding.

gotta say, i agree with you on this battle! the supreme wedding ceremony was nice, but it was only able to shine because the bride and groom had come from fortunate families-- the format is related to marriage, but really more about their origins/foundation? whereas the ultimate wedding focuses more on the bride and groom's sincerity and sentiment towards the celebration & their guests! plus, seeing the newlyweds cooperate to cook for everybody is really sweet, and a really straightforward way to thank everybody for coming! (also, it was objectively wild for kaibara to go about the challenge the way he did, considering his relationship with yamaoka.. i am considering this a kaibara L like not only did he stick to format, but his son clown'd him with a beautiful ceremony that isn't focused on family/lineage!)

If this were a western comic I imagine that the contrast would've been childhood vs who they are now, i.e. the ultimate would be the kind of flavors that represent their lives now and the family they're making, as an evolution of, but distinct from, the families they came from, but I guess that wouldn't be a Japanese way of doing things... Here the families and guests are what's celebrated, not the couple and what they're becoming.

Quite literally the difference between a wedding reception with a "set menu" provided VS a free buffet style (and/or standing party).
Philosophy aside, Yamaoka's one is definitely much better. Open space, people can walk around, and they can mingle more freely. The bride and groom making the tempura also give people the chance to talk to them.
The set menu style means you're kinda just stuck there with only the people in your table. Wandering around talking to people sitting at the other tables is very awkward, and some might find it impolite. It makes the event very very dull.
