The senator's hair probaly just looks longer than it really should because of the artist's style. Even Oohara and Yamaoka's hair looks a bit on the longer side, even though I'mpretty sure it's intended to be the standard short-cropped "Japanese salaryman" haircut.

Yeah, I figured that it was just Hanasaki’s style. But, I thought it was interesting to point out anyway… Though he does present Kaibara with a truly glorious 80s mullet. The beard was really more anachronistic. Beards and facial hair aren’t as rare now in politics, but at the time, they were nearly unheard of. Ron Dellums is the only member of Congress I can think of who had one.
