I wish just once the answer to a failing restaurant would be something like logistics or an issue with service, instead of some wabisabi intangible like "seeing the face of the chef" in the food.

although a part of me loves the idea of a professional photographer getting a half-chub off of a kiwi on an unglazed plate.

I don’t think we’re ever getting something like that, tbh. I will say the facial expressions in this chapter really made me laugh. Kyogoku’s initial reaction to the kiwi on the plate actually made me laugh out loud. I don’t think I’ve laughed out loud at this manga in ages.

Like on one hand, food can cause that. I can eat my pancakes, moms pancakes, and grandmas pancakes. We cook em the same cus we all learnt from grandma.

I can still pick out whose is grandmas. So in that way, I "see" the face of the cook.

On the other, I know who makes my favorite order of fried chicken Kaarage at the Japanese spot. I know his face, I know he cooks well. I do not know his name but I know thats sure his work alright. I dont need to think of the man when I eat to appreciate the effort.

" Your food is good, nutritionally its perfect, the tastes are good, but you dont come through in it "

Ok and?? This chapter is less his restaurant is dissatisfactory and more Arakawa and Kyougoku are just straight up depressed? GO SEE A PSYCHOLOGIST, BOTH OF YOUSE.

I remember seeing that whole "Face of the chef" thing in Shokugeki no Souma. Oishinbo is clearly a big thing in Japan, and I've seen Kaibara make funny cameos in other series before, so I wouldn't be surprised if Souma's creators took that idea from this series.

I think that's pretentious, LOL. What even is "seeing the face of the cook"? Like, obviously different hands and habits naturally could produce slight differences because a lot of cooking is done by instinct, especially if the idea is to innovate and not be stuck to the same recipe. But most people are just gonna judge by "I think this shop's sushi is better than that shop's sushi", or "the service/environment here is better". Not many people particularly cares for a unique flavours or menus.
