Marrying her would do the opposite of what the viscount said as it would give the hostile Count Ferdinad an even stronger claim on the territory especially if the MC mysteriously died leaving Count Ferdinad's daughter as the replacement ruler of that Fief as noble marriages go. This is a fief and not a part of the Duke or Marquis estate.

And what is with the translations? It was duke at first. Then it became marquis. Then it became markiz or whatever the spelling is now. And it was Ferdinad or Ferdinand? If he is a marquis of war as the past descriptions go, then he is more accurately a Margrave instead of a Marquis. The margraves were typically fighting marquis that bordered disputed territory and would be assigned territory by the King. That was certainly the case at the beginning of the story. The margrave would hold the border land and defend it against invaders trying to take it away from the kingdom. That would also explain why the duke's son #2 and son #3 are still in the runninng to be the next ruler because son #1 is a wind mage while #2 and #3 have the warlike attacking fire mage powers.

The dungeon, Ferdinand used to have the territory and should have sent surveyors who probably found it and they made a massive deal about finding one bringing prosperity and riches.
So if Ferdinand found a dungeon and didn't tell his king so as to monopolize it but soon after lost it to Vans family and they also found it then word will reach the king who might be less than happy that a Viscount failed to mention such an important resource being found in their territory, clearly showing that they are unfit for nobility. (or their heads.)
Option 1 to cover up his folly: Sending his last unmarried daughter to marry the current lord, bringing them into the family and returning the territory to him, or at least giving him an excuse to generously survey the land for the current lord and just so happen to find the dungeon for the first time.
Option 2: As mentioned by Panamera there may or may not be an army of knights at the ready to invade and take the territory by force, but that is likely to be a last resort since it would bring a lot of attention and scrutiny.
