With fantasy materials the MC can apply a level of refinement can easily manipulate a material and reform it it at the molecular level. I can say in the nearly fifty years I've walked this earth I've never seen someone claim outside of fiction to take normal lumber straight from a tree and impart qualities that would allow it to cut not only weapons grade fantasy steel, but dungeon born artifacts as if it were paper.

That being said, if one were to use that technique to craft something outwardly similar to a Chinese crossbow, it would make the device much lighter, the action infinity smoother, and the internal mechanisms much stronger and capable of exerting more power.

OTOH Enchantments in most fantasy setting are capable of enhancing the actions of devices in predictable ways and in most cases with specific intent. Like say when the operator pulls this lever the enchantments enhance the draw strength of this set of pulleys. As the internals are braced against the frame, it makes it possible for the loading action to be pulled without much leverage being applied. This coupled with material surfaces that are microscopicly smooth means little to no friction or binding.

And let's not forget the fantasy system that enhances a native individual's overall performance. And that's even before their own magical spells, skills, and or abilities kicks in to add yet another layer of magic fuckery to the fantasy physique.

The manga already works on the premise that the protagonist can create perfect materials through a magical nano-fibre knitting process. Wood can be made denser yet significantly lighter than the material it was created from while occupying the same volume, is malleable but can withstand all compressive/tensile/shear/bullshit forces, harder than stone, can't be cut by ordinary metal weaponry unless "not enough" material is used, etc. Weapons made from magical fibre can slice through any material unless that material is magical or made with the magical nano-fibre knitting process.

Why is making stuff that works to theoretical perfection because they're made from perfect materials suddenly hard to swallow?
