Feels like one of those kitsune priestesses should have been keeping an eye on Katabami. It seems odd that they know what will happen if anything goes wrong, but they don't bother trying to prevent it.

Maybe Kamo-kun's going to get a shot at godhood?

I wouldn't be surprised if this was planned. Katabami and Kamo just expressed their feeling for each other, and now nom you're dead. Maybe it's still possible to revive Kamo and turn him into a kitsune too to be with his beloved?
