Since the festival chapter and yet he kept trying to gaslight himself. I can no longer tell if he's dense or considerate or just an idiot

I keep reading this, and by this point I might as well stick around until it ends, but something about their relationship gives me the ick. I think that it's the whole lying about who she is while wearing the basket thing. I get that the manga touches on how dishonest that is, but I don't think I would be able to get over it as he has.
He is willing to accept any face the person has underneath it, so what does it matter if that person is someone close to him or someone unknown?
He's not in a victim situation here.

But I understand that in real life marrying someone who seemed to lie so easily would be a risk to take.

No. You don't get to play it off like you knew for a while Itami.
Right up until the confession you were still in denial...

You know, the people who got pissy and spoiled the reveal didn’t do it justice. This was a good reveal and doesn’t deserve their vitriol.

The reveal went as awkward as I hoped it would, I'm proud of their dorkiness. She wants to marry him so bad that it slipped right through her mouth. Adorable!

I don't understand if it is like this or the opposite (she tried to trick him while cornered at first, and then she started to develop feelings seeing that he's a genuine and honest person) but I believe it works in both ways

Also, MC's mother is brutal lmao
I was thinking that too, but it seemed during the second set of flashbacks she was slowly falling for him to the point she wished his marriage meetings failed. It seemed to take place way before she suggested the date with her “friend”.

Maybe it was always there, but she didn’t know how to deal with it or initiate contact.
