I read it as she initially admired how he conducted himself at the office. Over time, she got more and more interested in him when she saw how much of a good guy he was. Then she started getting jealous of possible marriage match ups because she didn't realize her feelings yet.

When she backed herself in a corner by not saying how she really wanted to go on a date with him, she was too shy and scared to go as herself. Finally she got the idea for the mask, but realized how ridiculous she was being and figured he'd reject her right away. Instead, he pulled a CHAD move of dating her for 6 months and then proposing.

I don't understand if it is like this or the opposite (she tried to trick him while cornered at first, and then she started to develop feelings seeing that he's a genuine and honest person) but I believe it works in both ways
