I love the personal moments between the Rocks Pirates. Shikki trying to kill Kyo. Whitebeard acting in a fatherly way to Kaido. Gloriossa commenting on Big Mom's many pregnancies. Stussy and Whitebeard. Shakky wooing even Rocks.
And the finally, the wonderful gambit of the Elders to set Rocks against Harald. Either he kills a dangerous pirate, ending that threat, or Rocks kills Harald, weakening the giants and becoming persona non grata to the giants, or both die. It's win-win-win.

Rocks pirate is really interesting so far, and honestly surprised me that how they are portrayed more decent than I imagined them to be.
Not gonna lie they feel like more a Pirate King crew than Roger's. All their line up are straight up legends while with Roger there are only three or four at best.

Why is every character these days such a joke? Back then: Roger being that badass pirate king, Rocks being this shadowy, evil pirate.
Reality: two goofys simping for a woman. Oh, and the Rocks aren‘t actually evil, they are really just Robin Hood, stealing from rich people. What a joke.
And we all know Imu is gonna be the biggest Queen Lily simp.
It really cheapens the story.

the more I see of these times the more I want to see what things were like in Joyboy's time, before he went to war with Imu and the soon-to-be World Government. It's a joy seeing these characters be People beyond the legends they've been propped up on, makes the connections between all of them and the current crews we're following way more feasible lol

Rocks still did many evil things, as noted in the story. To document all of them would be 3 volumes or more of the manga.
This is like learning George Washington also hated chicken and had bad gas. The truth behind the legendary figures.

facts are always stranger than fiction. of course the WG painting them in worse light, they still doing it in the current era
We saw them stealing from corrupt people but that doesn't mean Rocks was a Robin Hood type figure. There's no reason to believe they plan on donating the money they stole. Plus there was that truncated list of their crimes a couple pages later.
Tell me you haven't read One Piece without telling me you haven't read One Piece.

They are a joke. Having those heart eyes is for joke characters. It doesn‘t project power or seriousness.
Pre-Timeskip used to be different, the lines between jokes and seriousness were sharper. Coincidentally, the literal lines in the artwork were sharper too. Today‘s artwork looks so sloppy and busy.
Why Oda is so allergic against not overloading his panels, I will never understand. It would look cleaner and it‘s less work for him.

Oda even said it himself in an interview, that his eyes are getting worse so he can‘t draw clean details anymore. It‘s very obvious if you just compare the artwork from, say, Alabasta to now. You could actually tell back then what is going on in fights! xD Nowadays it‘s just scribbles most of the time.
I think the people hating on me are just GenZ or Alpha who started reading One Piece Post-TS and have no emotional connection to the first part of the story.
I started One Piece in 2001, when there wasn‘t even proper scanlations yet. One Piece was a masterpiece. I still love it (see my profile pic) and it‘s still better than 90% of manga, but boy, the degradation is brutal. Oldschoolers like me know it.
Oda completely shits on the Strawhats Post-TS, it doesn‘t feel like their adventure anymore. He gives the story no room to breath, to have laid-back adventures and interactions between the SH anymore. And yeah the artwork went from the best in the industry (imo) to a Rorschach test.
And introducing a character like Imu that late in the story, as the main villain, and he is a fucking simp, is an absolute insult to long-time fans like me.
