I get her confusion a little bit. I am assuming the wording is a bit more unclear in Japanese. More importantly, he's blurting out that he will make her love him without ever expressing his feelings to her. What would be the point of her loving him, if he doesn't love her? Without that connection, she might think he wants to be best friends or even wants her to become one of his fans.

@LegendX Because people are selfish, as a baseline average. They want something for themselves, first and foremost, and are willing to hurt others for it. Look at the people in his class in the flashback- that's normal. Their attitudes, while wholesome-feeling, are very much NOT normal, and the fact that all three of them feel that way means that he's VERY blessed to have good friends like them that want to support his happiness even at the sacrifice of their own.
