i remember another yuri manga that actually touched this subject,lol, what's said there was surprisingly accurate with what i read from a japanese lawyer student writing about the aoc matter in general,iirc what they said was :age of consent is 16 (with exception of position of power) but prefectures make the the law even stricter than other countries with similar aoc ages, basically the relation have to not be "indecent" which means it needs to be a "serious relationship" (confirmed further from the supreme court), the problem is that "serious relationship" is vague so basically it depends on who has the case,but he said that generally it's things like parental approval or evidence that the relation that the relation is not purely sexual in nature and had normal dating elements in them (basically making things like casual non-monetary sex hookups that can be legal in other places illegal here), so in general she can be legal depending on how mc hypothetically pursued the relationship (but we already know what happened as she eventually went out with the roommate)
