If there's gonna be genuine romance, he's actually going to have to mature with years and come back with a loving vengeance. Either that, or the demon queen has to have already been lobotomized.

It's probably mechanically impossible to create non-pornographic romance with the current narrative parameters. If there is, I'm not creative enough to figure it out.
